the b-side: all things go

It’s annoying when an advertisement is displayed in such an open and well-traveled site such as Philadelphia’s Suburban Station, and it’s obvious that the advertisement was developed by someone who has clearly only visited Philadelphia maybe twice in their existence, because it plays to tired stereotypes of what Philadelphia is about. In this case: Tropicana Orange Juice.
Yep, we have a reference to “whiz wit” because that’s all anyone in Philadelphia ever eats is cheesesteaks. We don’t have any other food in this city, just cheesesteaks. We certainly have no other places to eat cheesesteaks either, just Pat’s and Geno’s. In fact, the entire city is located at 9th and Passyunk. Everything else is just suburbs. Fuck this advertisement. I could wake up covered in blood, semen, and sweat as opposed to “last night’s whiz wit” and it wouldn’t make me want Tropicana Orange Juice. Try a little harder to endear yourself to Philadelphia next time, Tropicana…maybe by visiting the actual city before developing an advertisement and it might actually work.
